ok i want to pose a question to those who care to discuss this.. imagine a scenario.

you hear of a exjw writing a book, however, before writing this book this exjw is requesting money to publish said book.

you go along with it and help to get this book out to the public as you think that it will be beneficial.

The point has been made and it's a valid one: People who wish to donate will. If you don't want to donate then you don't have to. The process evens itself out. If there is a will for a book then there will be a book. (For what it is worth I think there will be a book because a certain someone known for his obstinacy wills it)

A second point can be made by using an analogy of someone dealing drugs outside a rehab clinic. Watchtower is a powerful drug itself, and for those who need a visible and ready replacement there is always Methodone. The addiction is still there, only that it is redirected to more of a chemical one and the dangers of the first one are mitigated. However the addictions and underlying problems still exist. Do you really want to be free of this Watchtower shit or do you just want a replacement that makes you feel good but without the high?

For those who want more stories from the brilliant mind who told everyone of "jerking off in showers", "blue balls" and tales of sexting girls and getting caught by the wife then you are in luck. I would hope he becomes a bit more transparent as he enters middle-age and brings along a tin cup for added effect.

i just left three comments on over there on the article.

when it was first published on thursday it took a while for some comments to show up and when they did there just eleven, which stayed that way for a while.

i noticed today it's up to 43, so i responded to a few folks and left my own.

i have known all of them over the last 15 years, talked at length with them, and knew what their wishes were, the copyright holder and spouse spent even more time with them socially and helping them set up their arrangements for when ray and cynthia passed.

i don't believe that anyone else on this board or others was a confidant.

there is no need to prove it to anyone but the copyright office which is satisfied with this.

Diogenesister - It's not a sincere (or real one, depending on your own viewpoint) if within the apology, you use it as a springboard to attack the people who brought this to Deborah Dykstra's attention. On his videos and in his article he wasted no time in attacking two couples and then made it into this bizarre grouping of evangelicals vs atheists. He even called it a 'manufactured controversy'. How can that constitute an apology when it is clear that he does not think he did anything wrong and it was all contrived by perceived enemies of his to discredit him? For that reason many people look upon that as a forced apology because of how he got caught. In other words, he was sorry he got caught and the copyright owner took offense. If my daughter apologised to me in that context I would send her right back to her room. He helps people get out, sure, so do many others. Lloyd Evans is notorious for issuing threats, one such one was made to this very site owner for refusing to censor the site to his liking. As he has just done so with Debbie Dykstra, he also used the threat of a 'tell-all expose' on JWSurvey to 'ruin reputations'. If you are OK with someone who purports to help people out of the cult using the same site as a means to threaten people he doesn't like, then I'll chalk it up to simply your opinion.

Can't we just respect the copyright here and stop bending over backwards to defend some clown who slapped his logo on the back and pirated copies in an attempt to promote his website? I have a copy of it in English and Spanish. You want it, it's yours. I've already read it and don't need it anymore. And it's not like he's been truthful in the matter to begin with. He's insisted that the printing was done by his friend solely, yet when that same person was contacted he fully admitted that this printing was an 'arrangement' between the two. He's lying through his teeth and blaming others including JWFacts when he's the one who's been involved with this from its embryonic stages. Ray himself contacted a former mod here and complained about pirating, now the copyright owners are doing the same. That should be that. Either pay for the book, borrow/buy it from somebody or wait until the copyright owners distribute it again as they are indicating. When there's that much of a demand as some are indicating, the supply will find a way to increase.

You are confusing Ewart Chitty with Leo Greenlees. Chitty left in 1979 and Ray served on his judicial committee. All he says is that Chitty was asked to resign by the GB and he did so afterwards. Perhaps he felt that this was a personal and private affair and he'd be a hypocrite in criticising the JW policy of judicial committees if he were to tell all about Chitty. Besides, what narrative is he going to further just by saying Chitty was gay? Greenlees resigned in 1984, after Ray was expelled and after the first release of CofC. In later editions Ray just said Greenlees resigned and that was it. It's likely he heard the reason through the Bethelite gossip network but wasn't about to put out second-hand information in his book. Besides, I think Greenlees was one of the more liberal members of the GB alongside Swingle, Ray and Sydlik.

i don't think there has been a specific thread on the hebrew verbs u-turn in the nwt, and how the society has responded to the work of perhaps their brightest and ablest defender in their history.

so here goes.. rolf furuli has defended jws on multiple fronts in many different settings, on issues ranging from chronology, mental health, doctrines, bible translation and the blood issue.

I'm going to go with the standard assumption that the WTS doesn't like anyone who is not directly authorised by them making commentary that is not already drawn out for them in the publications. We've all had a co-worker who is like that - any effort at helping or working with them is immediately viewed as a threat and considered unwelcome. They tolerate Furuli since he doesn't contradict them, but I am sure they keep an extra eye on him and and any words out of him are carefully analysed for deviating off-script. They view him as unnecessary since they already have Jehovah's guidance.

Back when cassettes were still in circulation, an acquaintance of mine at Bethel couldn't stand listening to Kingdom Melodies so he taped over the gaps on the top of the cassette that prevented erasing and taped Metallica songs he liked. Problem was he kept the tape on the Kingdom Melodies cassette and someone found it. When he got back to his room, they were going through all his possessions and he was sternly taken by his arm by a brother and kept under guard, forbidden from re-entering. They threw him out that night, all they gave him was his wallet and this babble on how he insulted Jehovah's house. He eventually got the rest of it back, but they must have really put his reputation through the ringer as no one would speak to him and the rumour about him by the time he got home was that he was involved with demons. Yeah they don't play around there, and if they want you out it's quick and efficient.

Ultimately this is going to be something the individual JW is going to have to see for themselves. No one can make these people change their dress codes and no media outlet besides the exJW ones are going to think that it's a newsworthy event that Jehovah's Witnesses have a policy against tight fitting and/or revealing clothing. As has been mentioned, this is a policy that is hardly exclusive to JWs. You can put the info out there, but for a gay or closeted JW to see the light and get out of the JWs, it's going to have to be something that makes them realise that JWs do not have the truth. I don't see many exits primarily based on 'why do I have to wear these silly clothes?'. Being indoctrinated to the point that you honestly believe that the GB has the exclusive channel of God and all these directives must be adhered to is the root issue. Once this is removed, then they can realize how silly it is for a religion to dictate what you can wear, and eventually that the Bible's anti-gay rhetoric originates with the cultural taboos of some desert nomads thousands of years ago.
